October is here – let’s celebrate

It’s Friday and the first weekend in October. That means it’s time to celebrate. You can celebrate the coming of fall, the start of a new month, the beginning of NLDS (go Phillies) or just the fact that it’s the weekend. I can promise you there are plenty of opportunities for celebration that involve drinks, food and fun.

There’s the 4th Annual RiverCity Festival at Penn Treaty Park on Saturday, October 1 from noon – 5 p.m. Kick off the day with the RiverCity 5K Run. Enjoy the moon bounces, inflatable rock wall, obstacle courses and arts and crafts. Local vendors Bubba BBQ, Hinge Cafe, Mandi’s Deli, Johnny Brenda’s and more will be providing delicious treats to pair with your bottomless cup ($20) to try craft beers from the Philadelphia Brewing Company and Brooklyn’s SixPoint Brewery.

If that’s not what you’re looking for, then head to 13th Street for the 6th Annual Midtown Village Festival, also taking place on Saturday, October 1 from noon – 8 p.m. Get ready for five blocks of delicious food, craft beer, live music, a sidewalk sale and great activities for kids. The festival kicks off with a Pooch Parade and continue with beer gardens, dunk tank, sumo wrestling competition and a “I love Philadelphia” cookie eating contest.

Of course, we’re also in the midst Oktoberfest. Actually, the original Oktoberfest in Germany is coming to an end this weekend, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop celebrating. Along with the events mentioned above, you can also enjoy a whole variety of events dedicated to beer and Oktoberfest.

So are you ready to celebrate this weekend? Happy partying!
