Today marks the 155th anniversary of the Pony Express, which was pivotal in increasing the speed of mail delivery in the U.S. I think it must have been an exciting time in which to send mail, as you could not only send/ receive mail within 14 days, but there certainly was an added element of surprise of a rider possibly being robbed. If I lived during that time, I definitely would have wanted to be a Pony Express rider.
To celebrate this wondrous day, Google has put together a doodle game that lets you pick up letters to be delivered. Of course, there are obstacles along the way. In this video, they explain how they came up with the idea to honor this part of the postal system’s past.
